You might recall, we kicked off our campaign in early April to collect signatures to present to the budget committee to show support for funding active transportation. Initially, our goal was 200.
To get there, we decided to hold two petition signing events and had two fantastic venues made available to us: the first was at Whole Foods (with beer from Cascades Lakes Brewery), and the second was at Primal Cuts Meat Market.
What was really incredible to experience was local businesses approaching us lend aid to our cause. Many thanks to the Environmental Center, Pine Mountain Sports, Bend Velo, Bend Electric Bikes and Hutch’s Eastside for hosting petition signing sheets. Without this full community effort, we NEVER would have been able to collect 488 signatures.
We’ll be presenting these signed petitions sheets to the budget committee during their Thursday meeting at the Bend North Fire Station during the public comment period at 6pm. We’ll also show the assembled budget writers a short video of footage collected at our two signing events with regular folks talking about the role active transportation plays in their lives.
