A Bold New Vision for Bend’s Streets

We’re thrilled to share Bend Bikes’ new five-year strategic plan—a roadmap that will guide our work through 2030 as we advocate for safer, more connected streets throughout our community.

At the heart of this plan is an ambitious vision: making Bend a city where walking, biking, rolling, and public transit are accessible transportation options for everyone. A community where you can live or visit happily without relying on a personal vehicle.

Championing Safe Street Standards

One of our key priorities is advocating for updated street standards that truly protect people walking, biking, and rolling. We’re advocating for the adoption of NACTO (National Association of City/Transportation Officials) street design standards—proven guidelines that cities across the country use to create safer, more comfortable infrastructure.

We’re also actively engaging with the city on current street-level projects, ensuring that every new development includes bike lanes, sidewalks, and paths that connect our community. Our goal is clear: zero traffic-related deaths or serious injuries among people walking, biking, and rolling.

Your Voice Makes the Difference

None of this work happens without passionate community members like you. That’s why we’re building a grassroots volunteer team to engage with the city council, city staff, and local decision-makers. Whether you’re comfortable speaking at public meetings, writing letters, or simply showing up to demonstrate community support, there’s a role for you at Bend Bikes.

We’re also looking for volunteers to help with community rides and events that introduce more Bend residents to the joy and practicality of active transportation. These fun, social experiences help build the culture shift our city needs.

What’s Next

Over the coming months, you’ll see us working on multiple fronts: updating the Bend Bikes Map with the most current route information, partnering with schools to help more kids bike safely, and collaborating with local businesses to improve bike accessibility throughout town.

This is just the beginning. With your continued support and involvement, we’re building a Bend where everyone can travel safely and confidently on two wheels—or two feet.

Together, we’re creating streets that work for everyone.
