April Showers Bring Bikey Fun: Rides, Routes & Updates

As the days get longer, there’s no better time to hop on your bike! In this issue, we’re sharing a great route from Orchard Park. We’re also gearing up for our next Bikes & Pints social and our Second Sunday Spokes ride—join us for good company and great riding. Plus, we have some great articles on our friends over that the Bicycle Resource.

And we have a great event coming up on June 1! The inaugural Coffee and Cargo Bike Show at the Commons from 11m – 2pm. Looking forward to seeing you there.

Our Favorite Routes – Shopping on SE 3rd St

Sometimes you’ve got to go shopping. And much of the shopping in Bend is hard to get to by bike. That is certainly true for the area on SE 3rd St south of Reed Market which has many important stores including the Factory Stores, Walmart, Safeway, Fred Meyers, Goodwill along with many restaurants and medical facilities. You can even buy a car in this area. But how to get there and how to navigate the area? We recommend this trek for confident riders who are able to improvise by using parking lots and sidewalks to avoid traveling along or cross SE 3rd St itself but still want to access all the important places along this busy, auto-dominated corridor. This is our favorite route to shopping in this area but not a “favorite” route for anything but necessary travel.

Bicycle Re-Source of Bend: A local bike treasure

Our friends at Bicycle Re-Source of Bend are putting their time and energy into fulfilling their motto: “Connecting Bikes with People Who Need Wheels.” This group of local volunteers is in its fifteenth year of fixing bikes and getting them to people who need them.

Earth Day Fair

This year’s Earth Day Fair & Celebration, hosted by the Environmental Center, was a huge success—even without the traditional parade. A large crowd attended the festival downtown at the Environmental Center, Troy Field, Kansas Street and surrounding area.

Bend Bikes participated in the festivities, demonstrating safe bike routes throughout the city, sharing safe riding habits, and chatting with fellow people who ride.
