For those on the southwest side of town who are looking to bike to/from the central library, check out the route below!
Parking can fill up at the library, so travelling via bike is a great way to avoid circling the parking lot and get some fresh air.
The route and description are for an out and back so you can orient yourself from either direction.
From Farewell Bend Park to the Central Library
Farewell Bend Park to Southern Crossing Neighborhood
- Start at Farewell Bend Park: From the park, use the separated bike path to head toward the roundabout at SW Reed Market Rd and Alderwood Cir.
- At the roundabout, take the second exit onto Alderwood Cir.
- Turn left onto Woodriver Dr, then follow it as it curves to the left and heads uphill, passing Woodriver Park on your right.
- Turn right onto McClellan Rd.
- Make the next left onto Milo Ave.
Southern Crossing Neighborhood to Canal Trail
- From Milo Ave, transition onto the short dirt section of trail straight ahead, keeping left past the structure on your left to join the Central Oregon Canal Trail.
- Pass under Brookswood Blvd and continue straight along the canal trail.
- When you reach SE 3rd St, use the crosswalk button to safely cross the street and continue straight along the trail.
- Continue on the trail as the surface changes to gravel; after crossing American Ln, the path transitions into a paved multi-use path just south of SE Reed Market Rd.
Canal Trail to Central Library
- Follow this multi-use path east toward the roundabout at SE 15th St.
- At the roundabout, use the separated bike path and crosswalk to cross to the north side of SE Reed Market Rd, dropping into the bike lane heading east (or ride on the sidewalk depending on your comfort level).
- Turn right onto SE 27th St—you can use the crosswalk to make this turn if that feels more comfortable!
- At Stevens Rd, transition from the bike lane onto the paved multi-use path just east of SE 27th St heading south.
- Follow the path straight until you arrive at the Central Library on your left.
Return Route: From the Central Library to Farewell Bend Park
Central Library to Canal Trail
- Starting at the library, head north on the multi-use path just east of SE 27th Street.
- Enter the bike lane on SE 27th St at Stevens Rd.
- Turn left onto SE Reed Market Rd – you can stay in the bike lane on the right and use the crosswalk to make this turn if that feels safer!
- At the roundabout with SE 15th St, use the separated bike path and crosswalk to cross to the southwest side of the intersection, onto the multi-use path just south of SE Reed Market Rd.
Canal Trail to Southern Crossing Neighborhood
- Continue on this multi-use path, which becomes the Central Oregon Canal Trail with a gravel surface after crossing American Ln.
- At SE 3rd St, use the crosswalk button to cross over and continue along the canal trail.
- After crossing under Brookswood Blvd, continue straight on the trail past the structure on the right, then make a right onto a short dirt section of trail and continue onto Milo Ave in the Southern Crossing neighborhood.
Southern Crossing Neighborhood to Farewell Bend Park
- From Milo Ave, make the next right onto McClellan Rd.
- Turn left onto Woodriver Dr.
- Continue past Woodriver Park on the left, keeping left to stay on Woodriver Dr.
- The road curves back to the right and comes down to meet the roundabout at SW Reed Market Rd.
- At this roundabout, use the separated bike path and crosswalk to cross north and head into Farewell Bend Park. From here, bike paths connect to Riverbend Park and the Old Mill.
