Bike sales rocketed in the early months of the pandemic. According to the N.P.D. Group, a market research company, nationwide sales of commuter and fitness bikes increased 66%, kid bike sales went up 59%, leisure bikes were up 121%, and electric bike sales increased 85%. Whatever the type, whatever the reason, cyclists of all ages and abilities are out. May is National Bike Month and we want to celebrate the newcomers and the old faithfuls who are biking in Bend. Getting on your bike isn’t just trendy, it’s a way for us as a community to get around town without spending money on gas, it’s a way to reduce green house gas emissions, and a way to get active.
Kids are recommended 60 minutes of physical activity a day, while adults can strive for 150 minutes a week at least. Active commuting to work or to school is a great way to include movement in your routine. If it’s not habit yet, join Bend Bikes and others in town for some National Bike Month activities.
Join us on social media for one or for all of the activities – we want to see how you roll! Post a photo to social media and tag @BendBikes and include the hashtag #BikeThere to join other cyclists around the nation.Â
