May is National Bike Month!

We are hoping that you spent the month getting out there and riding your bike. Read on to find out about an upcoming Envision Bend Roadshow, our favorite route from Compass Park to Drake Park, and an update on our Squeak Wheel Club.

The Squeaky Wheel Club!

The Squeaky Wheel Club is getting ready to Roar! Since we announced the club at the Earth Day Fair, we’ve had thirty people express interest. Our first orientation drew a few people and they’re planning to comment to the City Council in June!

The idea of the Squeaky Wheel Club is to have people tell their stories of moving around Bend outside a car. These stories can describe challenges you’ve faced or successes you’re celebrating or anything else that would help the City Council understand the experiences of people outside cars in Bend. They need to hear from all sorts of people who want the choice to travel differently than the dominant transportation mode.

Orientation sessions are discussions about why, how, and when to comment to the City Council. Standing up in front of the council can be intimidating so we explain how it works and what it is going to be like. And there are other options: in addition to making an in-person comment, you can speak remotely through Zoom, you can deliver a written version of your story to the council at a meeting, or you can email your thoughts to the council any time. The important thing is to let the City Council know that moving around town outside a car is important to you and to many other people.

The next orientation will be June 17 at the Downtown Public Library from 6:00-7:30 pm in the Meyer Room. Please join us if you want to take this avenue to improving biking, walking, and rolling in Bend. Contact [email protected] for more information or to get on our list to get infrequent updates.

Squeaky wheels eventually make the roll smoother!

Our Favorite Routes – Compass Park to Drake Park

With summer approaching, we’re highlighting safe routes to parks as an important piece of a connected biking and walking network. So grab the kids and hop on your bicycle(s) for an afternoon of fun in a few of Bend’s west side parks.

Our booth at the City of Bend’s Bike Night. It was a great turn out and we are hoping to see more of these around town in the future!

Envision Bend’s Drake to Juniper Roadshow

With the Hawthorne Overpass planned to span the Bend Parkway and the railroad at Hawthorne Ave (between Franklin and Greenwood) it is time to make sure there is somewhere to go from either end of the overpass.  You can help build that vision by joining a bike ride from Drake Park to Juniper Park and then discussing the possibilities you see.  The City of Bend, Envision Bend, and Bend Bikes are jointly sponsoring this event.  Register on-line or at the QR code below.
