Email us a picture and your story. Ashley Joyce is heading off to teach 1st Grade at Bear Creek Elementary School in Bend, Oregon. Ashely began bicycle commuting 3 years ago. Ashley says, “It’s invigorating, plus I don’t have to scrape my wind shield in the winter”.Dustin Cary uses his bicycle for transportation and we caught up to him in Bend’s Mid-town. Dustin enjoys the, “Freedom of the bicycle”.Josh Goldstein rides his bicycle to work at Pilot Butte Middle School and transports his children around town via their bike trailer. Josh says, “The only thing to say, is there is no reason not to”.Laura Parker rides her bicycle with her three kiddos in tow everyday.Colin Mahood is the resident coffee roaster at Strictly Organic Coffee Co. When asked why he chooses to ride, Colin says, “Number one because it is relatively easy, I enjoy it, and it saves money”.Mark Corson and his son Nathan ride all over Bend together. Mark says, “we’d rather be on bikes than driving any day”.Krystal Collins is documenting life from Central Oregon by bicycle. Collinsrocks Media was founded in 2012 and Krystal encourages everyone to, “Conduct business by bike. Give it a try!” Collinsrocks Media also has a weekly installment on Bike Around Bend.Megan Banman is a Bend High School English teacher and enjoys her crosstown ride daily. Megan says, “Time on my bike is the only time that is wholly and completely for me”.Jen Goodman enjoying the beautiful afternoon spring commute on her bicycle in Bend.Ed Mierjeski chooses to ride a bicycle as a way to be more environmentally responsible. Ed says, “It’s fun and connecting, providing me with a new form of exercise while giving me increased opportunities to meet new people”.Tory Sox is a knowledgeable and trusted bicycle mechanic at Bend Velo Bike Shop. Chances are, if you ride a famous J. Livingston repurposed bicycle, Tory has built it for you. Tory uses his multiple bicycles he owns for transportation because he thinks, “Driving sucks!”Daniel Price volunteers at St Charles Medical Center and Pine Ridge Elementary. Daniel, holding up his apple says, “Nothing beats my gas”.Sam Bedell works for Bend Park & Recreation District as a Youth Rec Leader and Commute Options as Safe Routes to School:Central Oregon: instructor. Sam says, “I like watching the sunrise on my bike commute in the morning and working on my tan in the afternoon”.Gabriel Shonerd works at Cafe of Life Chiropractic of Bend. Gabriel says, “To bike or not to bike… TO BIKE! I always feel better when I ride”.Scott Ferguson challenged himself last summer to spend a year getting around by bicycle. Scott says, “I used to be a fair weather cyclist, now I ride all year round”.Daniel Brewster started Cascade Couriers in 2007 as a sustainable option for delivery services in Bend, Oregon. Daniel says, “It beats driving a truck”.Ben Lewis is a local haberdasher at Pinch Flat Designs. Ben says, “This is my daily meditation”.Lucas Freeman (w/son John in tow) with Bike Around Bend and Bend Bikes says, “This is my favorite detour on the river”.Ross Winsor works at webcyclery and says, “Using a bike to get around is easy, fast, and fun. Mikey loves to take the long way he says, “because Bend is so beautiful”.Eli Hannon with Cascade Couriers finishes up a delivery at City Hall.Alice Drobna works for Hydro Flask and is a avid bicycle commuter. Alice says, “I enjoy everything biking. Being outside everyday and doing my part to save the environment”.Brandon Huston (Bend Circus Center owner) loves his bike for transportation on roadways and far away lands.Destry Serna has a short ride to Juniper Swim & Fitness Center where he wakes up a 4:45am and hops on his bike. Destry says his ride, “wakes me up in the morning, no coffee needed.”Denise Rowcroft is an avid bicycle rider and her daughter Nora is learning how much fun bicycle riding can be.Mike Martin is an amazing bicycle mechanic. Mike works for Hutches Bicycles in Bend and operates Bicycle Resource of Bend (BROB) a local nonprofit. BROB is dedicated to connecting bikes with people who need wheels.Michael James Lee says, “Biking is simple and makes me feel free”.Meghan Bull with Studio Shen Massage and Body Work mostly rides from downtown to her house. Meghan says, “My favorite thing is riding along in the morning and smelling what people are cooking for breakfast.”Steve Guat comes to Bend from California where he states drivers don’t care about bicycle riders. Steve says, “I like it here because it’s so bike friendly. I don’t own a car on purpose.”Julia Deskin says, “For me, being on my bike almost always guarantees a happier day.”Peter Werner says, “Nothing says old school like wind whipping through your three piece.”Dan Wolnick, Principal at Juniper Elementary, says, “I could ride my bicycle down the same street every day and always notice something different.”Corie Harlan rides her bicycle for daily transportation to Oregon Natural Desert Association. She says, ” It’s a great energizing way to start and end the work day.”SweetPea Cole helps create community with the power of her bicycle. She says one reason she chooses to ride is because, “I get rockstar parking no matter what.”Alicia Renner with Howl Attire says riding a bicycle is her favorite thing ever. To quote Alicia, “It’s a taste of fun every day.”Jake Norris, “When there is more accessibility to a mode of transportation, it becomes more natural for people to start thinking that way.”“We run all our errands on the weekend with this set up right here”, says Mark Campbell, who works a Pine Mountain Sports.Hunter Dahlberg with Orion Forge enjoys everything about riding. Hunter says, “If I get to ride my bike for an errand, I feel like I’m cheating.”Lindsey Jones is the Development Assistant at ONDA and an amazing barista at Thump Coffee in Bend. Lindsay says, “It’s one of those win win win win kind of things with really no down side.”Elizabeth Weigand says, “I love fresh air on my face and moving my legs and not being in my car.”Nicole Test works at Jackson’s Corner in Bend. Nicole says bicycle riding, “engages all of my senses and ignites my inner beast”. Her trusted bicycle is called “The Stallion”.
